DIY Zero Waste Hair Gel - Linseed

I have naturally curly hair and anyone who does will know the dilemma of trying to tame the curls. Previously I used Aveda as it was the only product I found that would tame my curls but now I no longer want to buy plastic I can avoid and also it is great to know you can make your own. I think this homemade version is superior to any on the market and it also reduces your overall waste.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup whole linseed or flaxseed

2 cups water

Grapefruit seed extract (acts as a preservative)

Method:

*Place the ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil

*Reduce the heat and simmer for up to 15 minutes

*You will know its ready as the mixture will be an egg white consistency.

*Remove from heat and allow to fully cool

*Place some cheese cloth over a bowl and put the flaxseed mixture inside and squeeze out the gel into the bowl.

*Add 20 drops of preservative into 100mls of gel and mix

*Place in an airtight jar and it will last up the 3 months

*Use a small amount on damp hair and scrunch to form the curls. This gel gives a medium hold.

*Without the preservative, the gel will only last a few days in the fridge.
